The Fascists begin their 'march on Rome'. They begin to take control of telephone exchanges, police stations and government offices in parts of northern Italy. PM Facta asks the King to introduce Martial Law

The King agreed to martial law. 8 Hours later he changes his mind and Facta resigns. Salandra is unable to form a Government with Mussolini

Salandra advises Mussolini be appointed PM. King sent a telegraph to Mussolini confirming a meeting

Mussolini arrived in Rome and he is appointed Prime Minister of Italy.

Most of the squads arive in Rome. It moves from a hostile take over to a victory parade.

Feared replacement (Duke of Aosta supported Mussolini, as did the King's mother). Doubted the armies abilities. Cowardly unconfident person.

Preferred Mussolini to each other. All 4 of the liberals eventually advised the King to appoint Mussolini.

Some Generals sympathised with Fascists. Marshail Diaz told the King 'the army will do its duty. However it would be well not to put it to the test'.

General Confederation of Industry, Confedration of Agriculture and the Bankers Association telephoned Rome asking for Mussolini to e appointed. Pirelli and Olivetti (industrialists) did the same
