What types of Judges are there?
District judges, Recorders, Circuit judges, High Court judges (puisne), Lord Justices of Appeal, and Justices of the Supreme Court

Qualifications needed to be a District Judge?
Be a solicitor/barrister/legal executive for at least 5 years

Qualifications needed to be a Recorder?
Be a solicitor/barrister/legal executive for at least 7 years but most will not be accepted until about 15 years

Qualifications needed to be a Circuit Judge?
Drawn from the ranks of recorders, expected to live close to the courts which they will sit, also; promotion from a district judge, promotion of a chairman for a tribunal

Rights of audience for 7 years or been a Circuit Judge for at least 2 years

Either be an existing High Court Judge, or be able to practise in the High Court for 7 years

Nominated by the Prime minister

Intellectual capacity, personal qualities, an ability to understand and deal fairly, authority and communication sills, efficiency, leadership and management skills

High level of expertise in the area chosen, ability to quickly absorb information, appropriate knowledge of the law and its underlying principles
