Why is the baptism of Jesus important?
Marks account shows us that Jesus was the sun of God.The vioce from heaven recognized Jesus with great love, as well as God giving him the power of the holy spirit.Letting John baptize him he was fulfilling the prophecies and setting a example to us.

In matthews Jesus showed great pleasure at Peters reply and declared him founder of the church. Peter would be given keys to heaven as he was the only one who really understood Jesus' mission.

The authority of God. Suffering servant. Jesus will return again.

He had Gods authority to forgive sins and over rule the sabbath.He must suffer and die at the hands of sinful me to free people. Will rise from the dead to free christians and give them the hope of eternal life. Seen in all his power/glory at the end

What does son of god tell christians?
At the baptism and transifiguration God spoke with love for him.Shows the closeness of them both. A son owes it to his father to obey him. Jesus had to be divine (proved in miracles and resurrection) only son of god could do that not a human.
