What were the divisions?
Lazare Carnot accused Robespierre and Saint-Just of being dictators, and Collot d'Herbois was offended by the Cult of the Supreme Being. The CGS was also being sidelined as Robespierre's Police Bureau took over. As a result, Robespierre lost support.

How did the other members of the CPS conspire to remove Robespierre?
They accused him of being under the influence of a crazy lady called Catherine Theot, and intended to have her brought to trial to indict him, but Robespierre stopped the trial from going ahead.

What happened in July 1794?
Robespierre spoke at the National Convention, and told them he knew the names of traitors of the revolution, but he refused to reveal them. This made everyone feel vulnerable.

What was the result of Robespierre's speech at the Convention?
d'Herbois orchestrated the arrest of Robespierre, Saint-Juste and Couthon. Robespierre fled to the Hotel de Ville, but it was stormed by the NG and then was arrested again.

28th July 1794

What happened to the political nation after Robespierre's execution?
63 of his surviving supporters were prosecuted; some were executed and others were exiled to French Guyana. The Convention became more moderate.

What did the moderate members of the Convention do to end the Terror?
1) Revolutionary Tribunals purged of Jacobins in August. 2) Jacobin Club closed down in November. 3) Maximum price restrictions abolished and Girondins restored to the Convention in December. 4) Feb. 1795- Paris Commune abolished.
