1636, Orders from the King to have the Scottish Kirk look a certain way, Kirks were calvanist, ideas to make them more arminian.

1637, rioting in St.Andrews and spread across to the Lowlands.

1638, sign a pact which says they will defend the Kirk and restore calvanist rights

1638, Covenants raised armies, Charles was lacking money so he had to rely on county militia.

1639. Charles cannot win, signs treaty of Berwick and ends the War.

1638-1640, English gentry was unhappy going to war, didn't agree with religious policies. Strafford recomended Charles to call Parliament due to lack of funds.

What is the Short Parliament?
1640, Flood of petitions against Personal Rule and laundianism, ignored them and demanded more money instead. No agreement was made and Parliament was shut down after just 3 weeks.

When was the Battle of Newburn?
August 1640, Charles defeat.

What was the Treaty of Ripon?
Scots came down to New Castle, charged Charles £850 a day until agreement was reached. Parliament was called again, became the end of Personal Rule.
