Define a celebrity (intro)
A person of distinction or fame. The attract the media. They have entertaining personality / the source of entertainment themselves.

Relationship with someone you havnt met - creates the illusion of a relationship. The target is usually unaware of the person who has created the relationship.

Meta analysis. Most likely formed with TV celeb similar and attractive to individual. Celebs = real and act in believable way = viewers can compare how they act in similar situation. PSR usually in adolescents but no evidence age is a predictor.

Schiappa = meta analysis = loneliness not predictor. Sood & Rogers = Those who are more social, more likely to have PSR. (They engage in social groups about target individual)

People exposed to same characters over + over = persieved reduction in uncertainty of social relationships. = models of social behaviour= can learn cultural values. (continuity hypothesis)

Entertainment social = source of entertainment / Intense personal = intense and compulsive feelings / Borderline parasocial = uncontrollable fantasies, forms of extreme behaviour relating to celeb.

Intense personal = can lead to positive PSR. Borderline pathological = can lead to them believing relationship is actually real.

Most dont go beyond entertainment social, but motivational forces may cause addiction and PSR formed.

Used EPQ to assess link between level and personality. Those of intense personal = neuroticism (experiencing negative emotional states) = depression = those with higher levels of absorbtion related to poor mental health.
