Design & Technology: Textilestextiles ASAQA Created by: AnnettaCreated on: 03-01-16 14:04 Difference between knit and woven fabrics Knit fabrics contain loops or fibres that allow the material to stretch in one or both directions, whilst woven fabrics only stretch on the bias. 1 of 6 Knit fabrics Continuous loop of yarn is used to construct the material, giving it a braided appearance. 2 of 6 Woven fabrics Multiple strings of yarn cross each other, creating the appearance of a basket weave. 3 of 6 Fabric decoration Techniques include: embroidery, screen printing, transfer printing, block printing, fabric pens, stencilling, quilting and applique. 4 of 6 Fixing Making sure that the dye stays in the fabric (doesn't run when washed). It can be done with heat/salt. 5 of 6 Components Seperately manufactured items that are added to a product e.g. buttons, zips, lace, briads, buckles, iron/sew on logos, hook&eye, ribbon etc. 6 of 6
