What does Aquinas' fifth way attempt to show?
That the universe is being directed towards a telos (goal or purpose). Also that evidence of a design in the world shows that there must be a designer.

Aquinas's theory is in favour of "Regularity of Succession". What does that mean?
That everything follows certain rules which lead to certain results. This links to Aristotle's final cause because of purpose.

The universe was designed to fulfil a purpose.

The universe behaves according to some order.

What does Paley compare to God when saying that the universe couldn't have happened by chance?
The analogy of the watch. The watch is so complex that is must have had a designer this must be the same for God designing the universe.

What were Hume's criticisms?
That the world is ordered but this could have been by chance. You can't compare something like a watch to God because they are both completely different. He also said that there could be more then one God each one having different characteristics.

What was Mills view of the teleological argument?
He said that nature is guilty of serious crimes as there is much more pain and suffering then there is happiness.

What did Darwin say about the teleological argument?
Darwin says that design is a result of random and natural processes. This is called natural selection.
