Tectonics

?
What is the crust?
The outer layer of the earth
1 of 18
What is the mantle?
The thrid layer, before the crust. It is molten, not fully liquid. It is a fairly thick layer
2 of 18
What is the outer core?
The second layer of earth. Its a liquid. It is not as thick as the mantle.
3 of 18
What is the inner core?
It is the very centre of the earth. It is extermly hot. It is a very dense solid made from nickel and iron.
4 of 18
What are convection currents?
The heat from the core causes the convection currects in the mantle to move. The currebts move slowly around the crust and in some places tyhe crust ios destroyed.
5 of 18
What is the ocenic crust?
One of the plates that make up the crust. It is less dense and thin. The crust is found under the sea.
6 of 18
What is the continetal crust?
A plate that makes the crust. It is more dense and thicker than the ocienic. It is found under continents.
7 of 18
What is a constructive plate boundary?
Where two plates move apart.
8 of 18
What is a destructive plate boundary?
Where plates collide.
9 of 18
What is a conservative plate boundary?
Where plates slide past each other.
10 of 18
What is a collision plate boundary?
The meeting of two plates.
11 of 18
What is a magma chamber?
A large underground pool under a volcano that holds magma.
12 of 18
What is larva?
Magma turns into larva when it reaches the surface of the volcano.
13 of 18
Crater
A bowl shaped basin in the top of the volcano.
14 of 18
Vent
A tube going through a volcano. Magma travels through this tube.
15 of 18
Secondary Cones
An eruption thats happens from other vents may build up the secondary cones on the flanks.
16 of 18
What is a composite volcano?
Steep sided volcano. Made up of layers of ash and larva. eruption are violent but not regular. They are on destructive plate boundarys.
17 of 18
What is a sheild volcano?
Has a wide base. Gentle slopes. Has layers of runny larva. Eeruptions are regular but are not violent.
