Define the term "labelling"
Refers to the process of defining a personal group on a certain way- as a particular "type" of person or group

Define the term "stereotype"
Is a generalised, over simplified view of the features of a social group, allowing for new individual differences between members of the group.

Define the term "halo effect"
Is when pupils become stereotyped, either favourably or unfavourably, on the basis of earlier impressions.

Define the term "self-fulfilling prophecy"
Is where people act in response to predictions which have been made regarding their behaviour, thereby, making the prediction come true.

Explain what is meant by a good impression
This means that a teacher who has formed a good impression of a student in one way. E.g. seeing them as cooperative, helpful, polite, may see that student more favourably in other related ways. The student may not have to be bright or hard working.

Explain what is meant by a poor impression
The opposite halo effect may also occur when a poor impression in one area is made e.g. being difficult or disruptive, being lazy, not being very bright (even if this isn't true)
