How are T cells produced
Stem cells differentiate to become lymphocytes in the bone marrow. B Cells mature in the bone marrow whilst T cells mature in the thymus.
1 of 8
How do T cells recognise non- self cells
T cells recognise the foreign antigens on the cell surface membrane on non self cells. Some phagocytes present antigens from pathogens engulfed, some cells which have hosted viruses have viral antigens on membrane, cancer cells have different antigen
2 of 8
How do T cells attack pathogens.
Each T cell is specialised to attack a specific antigen. T-helper cells attach to an antigen-presenting cell, which causes the T cell to reproduce by mitosis producing clone T cells. Clone t cells differentiate to attack pathogen
3 of 8
How can clone cells differentiate to attack the specific pathogen
They can become memory cells which roam, ready to quickly attack the specific pathogen. They can become phagocytes to engulf pathogens. They can become cytotoxic T cells. They can stimulate B cells to prodcue antibodies in response to the pathogen.
4 of 8
How do cytotoxic T cells kill pathogens
They produce perforins which perforate the cell membrane of pathogens enabling the cytotoxic T cells to release enzymes aimed at destroying the pathogens
5 of 8
How do B cells attack pathogens
B cells engulf the pathogen and present the antigen on the cell surface. T helper cell to attach to antigen on the b cell which stimulates b cells to divide by mitosis. These B cells specialise to become plasma/memory cells to attack the pathogen.
6 of 8
What are plasma cells
Plasma cells produce and secrete antibodies which are specialsed to attack the specific antigens on the pathogens
7 of 8
What are memory cells
Memory cells roam around the body fluids ready to attack future infections. When encoutnered with the specific antigen, memory cells diffferentiate to become plasma cells which secrete antibodies specialised to attack the specific antigen.
