What is the main role of a synapse?
to communicate an impulse of pre-synaptic neurone to post-synaptic neurone. Creating a junction.
1 of 5
Explain the difference between an action potential and a cell signal.
An action potential is a signal being carried along one cell. It is an electrical impulse. A cell signal is a message passed from one cell to another. It is a chemical signal.
2 of 5
Explain what is meant by summation
Summation is the combined effect of several small potentials. Small potentials combine together to produce a larger potential that may reach threshold.
3 of 5
What is meant by the term cholinergic synapse?
A synapse or nerve junction that uses acetylcholine as the neurotransmitter (signal)
4 of 5
What are the two Summations?
1. Temporal summation. 2. Spatial summation.
