Positive symptoms of schizophrenia
An excess of distortion of normal functions.

Paranoid delusions
When an individual believes that something, or someone, is deliberately trying to mislead, manipulate, hurt or kill them.

Delusion of grandeur
Imaginary power or authority, such as thinking that they are on a mission from God or a secret agent.

Hallucinations
Can be auditory or visual; hearing voices (usually unfriendly), seeing, smelling and tasting things that aren't there.

Disorganised speech
People suffering with schizophrenia have disorganised thoughts, which reflects in their speech.

Grossly disorganised or catatonic behaviour
This is where the person will have the inability or no motivation at all to do a task.

Involves the loss of functions.

Avolition
Finding it difficult to keep up with goal-directed activity.

Speech Poverty
Changes in the patterns of speech also accompanied by a delay in verbal responses during a conversation as a result of slower or blocked thoughts.

Reduction of emotional expressions, this can be facial, voice tone, eye contact and body language.
