What is conservation?
Conservation involves tying to preserve a variety of plants and animals and the habitats thst they live in.
1 of 13
Why is conservation important?
>Protects our food supply > Prevents damange to food chains >Protects plants and animals that may be useful for medical uses >Protects organisms and habitats that people enoy to visit and study.
2 of 13
When are species at risk of extinction?
If the number of individuals or habitats fall below critical levels.
3 of 13
When conserving speciecs what are the 3 factors to bear in mind?
>Size of the population > Number of suitable habitats that are available for the organism to live in > How much competition there is from other species.
4 of 13
Name 3 reasons why a whale may be kept in captivity for...
> Reaserch >Captive breeding pogrammes >entertainment
5 of 13

What is sustainable development?
Taking enough resources from the environment for current needs, while leaving enough for the future and preventing permenant damage
10 of 13
Give 2 examples of sustainable development...
>Fishing quotas are set , so there are enough fish left to breed > Woods are replanted to keep up the supply of trees.
11 of 13
When is it crucial to carry out sustainable development?
As the world population increases.
12 of 13
WHatare 3 important things we need to think about as the world population rises?
> fossil fuels will finish as demand for energy will rise so we need to find alternative fuels >need to supply in creasing amounts of food without destroying large areas of natural habitats >Waste products need to b disposed to minimise pollution.
