Define Post Event Discussion. (PED)
PED is when witnesses discuss the observed event and inadvertently pick up details from other eye witnesses. This then become incorporated into their memory.

What was the procedure for a study into PED?
Gabbert et al put ptpts into pairs and showed them the same crime but from different angles. See different details. They then discussed what happened then they were individually tested. Control group with ppl on their own.

What were the findings for a study into PED?
Gabbert et al found that 71% of ptpts recalled aspects of the crime that they couldn't have seen. The control group had 0%. Gabbert et al concluded that people assumed the other person was right. He called this "memory conformity"

What is one strength of a study into PED?
Gabbert et al's studies had high internal validity due to being in a lab. The angles were carefully done to control what was seen. We can be more confident that we were actually measuring the effects of PED.

What is one strength of the research into PED? (real-life application)
Police know not to allow witnesses to discuss together about the crime in order to prevent distorting the memories.

What is one criticism for research into PED? (No memory conformity)
Skagerberg and Wright- ptpts didnt just change their recollection of events to match someone else's instead they blended the two versions together. Memory contamination.
