Bowman's Capsule
= cup shape. Contains glomerulus (tangle of capillaries) - more blood enters the glomerulus than leaves due to ultrafiltration.
1 of 5
Proximal convoluted tubule
1st coiled region of tubule after Bowman's capsule (found in cortex of kidney). This is where any substances need by body are reabsorbed into blood.
2 of 5
Loop of Henle
Long loop of tubule = region of very high solute conc in tissue fluid (deep in medulla). Descending loop goes down cortex through medulla and vice versa for ascending limb.
3 of 5
Distal convoluted tubule
2nd twisted tubule where fine-tuning of body water balance takes place.Permeability of walls to water depends in response to ADH in blood.
4 of 5
Collecting duct
Urine passes down collecting duct through the medulla to pelvis. More fine tuning of body water balance happens ( alls of this part of tubule = sensitive to ADH).
