why do atoms react?
to get a full outer shell.
1 of 8
what happens when atoms react?
the atom looses one elestron to get a full outer shell, this makes IONS.
2 of 8
why are group 0 unreactive?
because they have a full outer shell.
3 of 8
what does INERT mean?
INERT means-unreactive
4 of 8
explain Giant covalent diamond?
its an insulator becasue there is no free moving electrons- there are 4 bonds. not lubricant because its a hard substance with strong bonds.it has a high melting point
5 of 8
exaplain Giant covalent graphite?
its a conductor because there are free moving electrons to carry electricity, it is lubricant because it has weak forces between layers which break. it has a very high melting point.
6 of 8
explain a metalic?
it is a conductor because it has free moving electrons. it is not lubricant because it has strong bonds. it is malleable and ductile and has small spaces due to free electrons.
7 of 8
explain simple covalent(simple molecular)
it is everything except for diamond and graphite. it is an insulator because there are no free moving electrons. it has low melting points. there are weak bonds between molecules but strong bonds between atoms. solids can be brittle.
