What is anger?
An acute stressor.

What was William's procedure in his study?
He got 13,000 people (who didn't have heart disease) to complete a 10 question anger scale.

What were the results from Williams' study?
6 years after the test, peole who scored high were 2 and half time more likey to have a heart attack. People who scored 'moderately' were 35% more likey. 256 people actually had heart attacks.

What did Williams conclude after the study?
Anger may lead to cardiovascular disorders, and people who are 'angry' may benefit from anger management.

Other factors weren't taken into account, questionnaries-participents may not remember stressful events correctly, stress may lead to unhealthy behaviour which lead to health problems.

A mental disorder characterised by feelings of sadness, worthlessness and listlessness.

Women who had chronic stress were more likely to develop depression.

People with high stress jobs were more prone to clinical depression.

People who recall stressful events may not remember correctly, did the stressful event cause the disorder or vice versa, Rabkin found effects of stress on depression account for less than 10% of the variance.
