Stress stimulates the SNS pathway in the autonomic nervous system, causing constriction of blood vessels and incr hearth rate. This wares away arterials walls leaving arothemas, thebuild up causes atherosclerosis = CHD

What did Williams et al do?
13000 people completed a 1-10 anger scale with questions such as 'are you hot headed', at the beggining of the study none of the PPs suffered from heart conditions

What did he find?
6 years later - medical check up exposed 256 = heart attacks. Those with higher scores were 2.5 times more likely to suffer from heart condition, and 35% more likely with 'moderate anger'

Who studied work related stress?
Russek studied heart disease in medical professions, he found that the high stress group (e.g. GP) 11.9% had heart disease compared - low stress group (dermatologists) 3.2% had heart disease
