What is the storm hydrograph?
a chart that shows how discharge of a stream or river responds to a period of precipitation

What's the rising limb?
the increase in discharge in response to precipitation. The more rapid the response the steeper the rising limb

What's peak flow?
the maximum discharge in response to a precipitation event

What's the falling limb?
when discharge declines after peak flow

What's the lag time?
the difference between the time of maximum precipitation and the peak discharge

what's stormflow?
the proportion of the total discharge contributed by the precipitation event

What's base flow?
the proportion of the total discharge contributed by water stored in permeable rocks, soils and vegetation
