What is qualitative?
Variables do not have a numerical value e.g. place of birth, colour of car, gender

Variable do have a numerical value, they can be discrete or continuous

What is discrete?
Variables take values which change in steps e.g. 0,1,2,3.. i.e. they can be counted

What is continuous?
variables can take any value in an interval i.e. they are measured

what is primary data?
this is data which has been collected for a specific investigation

what is secondary data?
this is data published by the government and other organisations, not collected for a specific investigation

it is all the possible data

is a part or selection of data

what is a parameter?
is a numerical property of a population e.g the mean height of all adult females in the uk is a parameter

what is a statistic?
a numerical property of a sample e.g. the mean height of the adult females in the sample

how can you avoid bias?
by taking a random sample

what is a simple random sample?
random samples selected without replacement
