Chi- squared Test
Chi-squared test is when the data is categoric ( its uses frequencies) and clear categories. It can have a minimum of 2 categories and usually there will be an expected and real world answer for each category.
1 of 7
Spearman Rank Correlation (correlation coefficient)
Correlation Co-efficient looks at using measurements and figuring out whether there is a relationship/correlation between the 2 e.g. how much sun an area gets and how many plants grow within that area.
2 of 7
Student T test
Looks at differences between mean values and what this represents.
3 of 7
Statistics
Statistics are used in biology to work out the probability of whether results are due to chance. This is why you always repeat an experiment to ensure that results are not random.
4 of 7
Null Hypothesis
A Null Hypothesis always predicts that there is no difference between the groups studied and no relationship/correlation between groups.
5 of 7
Alternative Hypothesis
The Alternative Hypothesis suggests that there is another factor in play that leads to the results- another factor that isn't being studied.
6 of 7
Standard Deviation
Standard deviation is the range of how much a group differs from the mean.
