What is Static Electricity?
Electric charges on insulating materials
1 of 10
All atoms contain electrically charged particles called...
Protons and Neutrons
2 of 10
Protons are....charged
positively
3 of 10
Electrons are......charged
negatively
4 of 10
What happens when you rub two insulating materials together?
Electrons are transferred from one material to another
5 of 10
Why can't protons be transferred?
Because protons are fixed in the nuclei of atoms
6 of 10
What is Induction?
When an object is charged by another charged object placed close to it
7 of 10
What is Induced Charge?
An electrostatic charge caused by another charged object being brought near
8 of 10
An atom has five protons. Explain how many electrons it normally has.
The number of protons in an atom is the same as the number of protons. Therefore, the atom has five electrons.

How does a balloon stick to a wall?
When you rub your balloon on your jumper, the balloon gains electrons and so becomes negatively charged. The wall contains postive and negative charges. The postive charges attract the negative charges on the balloon, causing it to stick on the wall.
