why did stalin support socialism in one country?
it was popular, most people agreed that they need to get socialism one way or another. it was a tactic against Trotsky,there was evidence to show the NEP was not working.

What was 'socialism in one country'?
an opposition of PERMANENT REVOLUTION, and stated that the USSR must follow its own path to socialism, allowing it to defend against the hostile foreign powers.

who made up the Left of the party?
Trotsky, Kamenev and Zinoviev, stalin removed them by siding with the right and arguing for 'socialism in one country' they were expelled from the party and the Politburo.

Bukharin, Tomsky and Rykov. when trotsky was removed Stalin commited himself to the policy of rapid industrialisiation, when he was opposed he removed them from the Politburo, he was now the sole leader of the party.

he was a late convert to Bolshevik party, many disliked his personality, faced anti-semitism, he was seen as an opportunist and underestimated Stalin.

1923, it said stalin was 'too rude and should be removed from General Secretary position'. It was never published because it would damage party unity.

there was less emphasis on INTERNATIONALISM and more change in the USSR, and there was a focus on class warfare.

what were the dificulties of the change from the NEP to socialism?
party didnt have enough resources, many were unenthusiastic, there was no clear formula to deal with issues about terror, industry and the military, and the equality needed to enforce socialism.

how did the Communist Party address problems with NEP industry?
in 1926 the Supreme Council of National Economy was set up to provide funding for industry, in 1927-8 there was an efficency drive. however strikes still occured that often led to phyica attacks on certain groups.

Name the changes to production under the NEP?
estimates fo income ranged from 93-119% of the 1913 levels. gaps in productivity worsened in 1913-28. foreign trade was a 1/3 of 1913 levels in 1928.however industry recovered during the first half of the 1920's.

what were the concerns over NEP agriculture?
uneven production, many peasants were unhappy due to taxes, farmers hoarded produce, exports fell,farming was often primitive, unions created worry for the authorities, communists had little hold over the rural USSR.

how did the party use propaganda during the NEP?
the Agitiantion and Propaganda department became heavily involved in all life, party grew in size especially whent Komsomol was set up, education was controlled by the party, religion was attacked as being a bourgeois class.
