survived the war, compete with foreign powers, the command economy allowed fast adaptation, siege mentality, Stalin was a strong leader, industry had grown, education was widespread, skills and standards increased.

policies caused disruptions, terror was a part of policies, had limited success, there were social problems women were still 2nd class citizens, there was no personal or political freedom, constant propaganda.
