Stages of the Screening Process

1 of 10
Stage 1
DNA is isolated from the embryo cells
2 of 10
Stage 2
A gene probe is produced
3 of 10
What does the gene probe do?
It will locate and bind to the faulty allele responsible for a specific disorder
4 of 10
Stage 3
The probe is added to the DNA from the embryo
5 of 10
Stage 4
If the probe binds then UV light is used
6 of 10
What is the UV light used for?
To detect the fluorescently labelled probe
7 of 10
Stage 5
The probe attaches onto the faulty allele and either fluoresces or doesn't

The embryo or foetus is affected by the condition
