What are the properties of P-waves?

They are longitudinal, can travel through both solids and liquids at about 5km/s. The vibrations of the wave are in the same direction as the wave itself.

How can you reduce the risk of sunburn and developing skin cancer?

You can stay out of the midday sun, keep your skin covered, always use sunscreen and avoid/limit the use of sun beds.

What do earthquakes produce?

Earthquakes produce shock waves (seismic waves) that can damage infrastructure and cause tsunamis. They are detected and measured using seismometers.

Why is the ozone layer important?

Ozone is a natural gas, high in the atmosphere, that prevents too many harmful ultraviolet rays reaching Earth. In the southern hemisphere a hole in the ozone layer has been found, causing an increase in cases of skin cancer.

What are the properties of S-waves?

They are transverse and can travel through only solids at approximately 3km/s. The vibrations of the wave are always at 90° to the direction of the wave.
