What are the properties of P-waves?
They are longitudinal, can travel through both solids and liquids at about 5km/s. The vibrations of the wave are in the same direction as the wave itself.

Why is the ozone layer important?
Ozone is a natural gas, high in the atmosphere, that prevents too many harmful ultraviolet rays reaching Earth. In the southern hemisphere a hole in the ozone layer has been found, causing an increase in cases of skin cancer.

They are transverse and can travel through only solids at approximately 3km/s. The vibrations of the wave are always at 90° to the direction of the wave.
