Name and Locate
Located in the Pacific ocean and East of Papua New Guinea. 1.4km North of New Caledonia. Between Tropic of Cancer and Equator.

Commercial logging done by TNC's (Malaysian TNC on Santa Isabel in Sepi - locals sold logging rights) Most timber is exported unprocessed so no jobs for locals created through logging.

China imports lots of timber. 90% of timber is illegally felled - no money gained by locals. Agri-businesses (farming run by international companies)

Effects
By 2020, most of the country's rainforest will be destroyed. Waste timber enters the Kahigi river causing flooding. Big machinery used to reach valuable trees destroys 40 or more trees.

Management Strategies
Isabel Forestry Management Project aided by European Union (mid 1990's) with 450,000 euros - only 2 trees per ha are felled every 10 years - allows rainforest to naturally recover.Locals get 40% of finished value of timber.Doesn't keep up with demand
