a religious explanation and justification for someones suffering and disadvantage.

Identify one similarity and one difference between churches and sects
The only similarity between a church and sect is that they both believe they have a monopoly of the truth. Churches are large organisations with millions of members, sects are small exclusive groups.

Pentecostalists and Mormons.

Explain what is meant by an 'audience cult'.
Audience Cults are the least organised and do not involve formal membership or much commitment. There is little interaction between members. Participation may be through the media.

Heelas sees the NewAge and modernity as linked in four ways. A source of identity, consumer culture, rapid social change and Decline of organised religion.

Suggest two reasons why women might be more religious than men.
According to Miller and Hoffman, women are more religious because they are socialised to be more passive, obedient and caring. As women are more often associated with nature and a healing role, they may be more attracted than men to New Age movements

How may religion be important for 'cultural transition'?
Religion can be a means of easing the transition into a new culture by providing support and a sense of community for minority groups in their new environment.
