what is a structural theory ??
what functionalism is refered to.

when society as a whole is seen as more important than an individual.

different parts that the society is made of. e.g. education, mass media, the family

social order is referred as the different parts in society by bringing the patterns of shared and stable behaviour.

an example could be the primary socialisation where families teach children's from right and wrong and also the secondary socialisation where education teaches children skills.

the societies agreement into a system of norma and values that guide our behaviour

social solidarity means being part of a community that feels like you have a common identity with.

the social institution prepares young people to take their place in the division of labour. this also ensures future generation are ready to replace workers who have retired of died.

all members of society is dependent upon this. without these society will decen into chaos

what are the criticism for functionalism ??
functionalism was popular in the 1950s but had a decline in the 1960s.
