Describe Bandura et al's 1961 Bobo Doll study, (procedure)
3-5 yrs male/female children, 1/2 exposed to adult aggressive to life-sized inflatable doll, half were not. Aggressive model physically violent e.g striking on head with mallet and verbal e/g "pow".

What were Bandura et al's findings?
Aggressive condition reproduced alot of physical/verbal behaviour. (non-aggressive virtually none) 1/3 repeated verbal responses. Boys produced more physical imitations than girls.

How does SLT explain aggression through observation and what type of learning is this known as?
Children laern aggressive behaviour through observation and if behaviour is worth repeating through indirect (vicarious) reinforcement, seeing rewarded for aggressive acts.

Explain the mental representation process by Bandura
Child forms mental representations of events in their social environment. Represents rwards/punishments for aggressive behaviour in terms of expectancies of future outcomes.If reward greater than expected punishment, behaviour continues.

What is self-efficacy? related to aggression .
Confidence in the ability to carry out necessary aggressive actions. A child who was previously unsuccessful at aggressive acts will have a low self-efficacy and confidence in ability to use aggression to solve conflicts.

Describe Bandura & Walter's 1965 follow up study on the role of punishment, what does this mean?
All children were offered rewards for performing model's aggressive behaviours. All completed similar number of acts. Learning happens regardless of reinforcements, but production (repeating the acts)is selective.

Describe Phillips 1986 study on homicide rates in the US, What does this suggest?
Homicide rates in US almost always increased in the week following a major boxing match, viewers imitating behaviour watched on tv. Suggesting: SLT is evident in adults as well as children

In large societies, some subcultures develop norms that sanction violence to a greater degree than the dominant culture.
