A change is a persons opinions or behaviours as the result of pressure from others, pressure can be perceived or real.

Putting less effort into an activity when you are with others doing the same thing.

What is deindividuation?
The state of losing our sense of individuality and becoming less aware of our own responsibility for our actions.

1)Gradual commitment- difficult to know where to draw the line. 2)Buffers- they could not see the consequences of their actions. 3)Not feeling responsible- on the behalf of someone else, just doing as they were told

1)Size of the group. 2)The nature of the task you are preforming. 3)The culture to which you belong

1)Being able to hide one's identity. 2)Wearing a uniform. 3)Being part of a gang/clearly identifiable group

1)Appearance of victim. 2)Amount of Bystanders. 3)How similar they are to you

What are the Practical implications of research into conformity?
It is highly likely that if 11 people in a jury believe someone to be guilty the final juror will agree with them even if privately she/he believe otherwise

What are the practical implications of research into obedience?
It allows an explanation for why the rocket 'Challenger' was allowed to explode. Some engineers anticipated the breakage of the part which caused the explosion but were told to keep quiet by their superiors because of the amount of money invested.

What are the practical implications of research into social loafing?
When students are given presentations to prepare for in groups, some will do most of the work while others will get away with making very little contribution to the group.

What are the practical implications of research into bystander intervention?
Research has shown us that people, who witness a small boy being dragged through the streets crying, are unlikely to intervene if others are not reacting to the situation as if it was an emergency (pluralistic ignorance).
