STRENGTH of Social Causation- Castle et al (1993)
Tested Social Drift by comparing the birthplace of schizophrenic individuals in Camberwell (SW London) with a non-schizophrenic control group. They found that most schizophrenic people had been born into deprived areas and hadn't 'drifted' there.

Found that children who were exposed to urban living for longer were more likely to develop schizophrenia.

Looked @ ethnic minorities and found that there were higher rates of low social class linking to schizophrenia.

WEAKNESS of Social Causation- Kirkbride et al (2007)
Found that people who had less social capital (functioning relationships and support) were more likely to develop schizophrenia- not the result of deprived areas. However, there could be a correlation between deprivation and low social capital.

WEAKNESS of Social Causation- Goldberg and Morrison (1963)
Found that schizophrenic men were often of a lower social class than their fathers, suggesting their disorder caused them to socially descend- hints at social drift as opposed to social causation.

WEAKNESS of Social Causation- Tienari et al (1987)
Found thata bad environment exacerbated schizophrenia in kids who had mums with schizophrenia. However, environment didn't cause kids to be schizophrenic who didn't already have a schizophrenic mum- suggests a genetic component.
