Naive ppt gave the wrong answer 36.8% of the time. 75% of ppts conformed at least once. Conformed to avoid rejection (NSI).

The study was stopped after 6 days. 2 days in the 'prisoners' rebelled. Guards employed 'divide and rule' tactics. 1 prisoner released after 1st day and 2 more released on day 4.

12.5% stopped at 300v. 65% of people continued to 450v. 84% of ppts glad they had taken part. Qualitative data also collected.

An explanation suggesting that we are more likely to obey people who we percieve as having authority over us.

People who scored high on the F scale identified w/ strong people. They were conscious of their and other's status - respected those of higher status. Fixed views on other grouos of people.

The presence of people who resist pressures to conform or obey can help others to do the same - like role models.

The sense we have about what directs events in our lives. Internals - they are responsible. Externals - up to luck / outside forces.
