1 of 8
SLT STRENGTH- Kubinyi (2003)

2 of 8
SLT STRENGTH- Williams (1986)
Natural experiment on 16 pts. TV introduced into a small Canadian village. After 2 years, these kids more likely to be aggressive compared to 2 control groups from different villages with differing levels of TV.
3 of 8
SLT STRENGTH of application
Has a brilliant practical application, can be used to rehabilitate offenders by giving them an appropriate role model alongside appropriate reinforcements.
4 of 8
SLT WEAKNESS of other processes
Other processes like hormones and brain areas that link to aggression are more scientific and therefore explain aggression better.
5 of 8
SLT WEAKNESS of studies [Kubinyi (2003)]
Used animals, and animals don't have an understanding of moral and social norms like humans do, which would affect an attempt to reproduce this behaviour. Thus, these findings can't be generalised to as great an extent.
6 of 8
SLT WEAKNESS- Flood-Page et al (2000)
Suggests that, within SLT being used to explain criminal behaviour, there may be a third variable such as social class; with those of a lower social class watching more TV and being more likely to reproduce violent behaviour.
7 of 8
SLT WEAKNESS of recidivism
The theory cannot explain recidivism. The theory explains that any punishment would reduce the likelihood of that behaviour occurring, yet recidivism still occurs in criminals.
