What do EEG readings on sleepwalkers show?
Delta activity associated with deep sleep as well as beta activity associated with wakefulness.

Age (young), stress, puberty

What do these risk factors suggest?
Everyone is affected by these risk factors but very few sleepwalk, suggests they are triggers for an underlying biological predisposition.

What is the concordance rate for sleepwalking in MZ twins?
50%

What does this indicate?
If sleepwalking was entirely genetic concordance would be 100% in MZ twins. 50% concordance indicates that environmental factors are necessary also.

Tiredness triggers sleepwalking. Participants were kept awake for a night and the following night incense of sleepwalking doubled.

Why do children sleepwalk more?
sleepwalking occurs during stage 4 sleep. Children get more stage 4 sleep.
