What is the first step of spermatogenesis?
An outer layer called the germinal epithelium cells (2n) divide endlessly by mitosis to produce more 2n cells, called spermatogonium
1 of 8
What is the second step of spermatogenesis?
As the 2n spermatogonium grow larger, they are called primary spermatocytes (2n)
2 of 8
What is the third step of spermatogenesis?
Each primary spermatocyte undergoes the 1st meiosis division to produce two secondary spermatocytes (n)
3 of 8
What is the fourth step of spermatogenesis?
Each secondary spermatocyte carries out the 2nd meiosis division to produce two spermatids (n)
4 of 8
What is the fifth step of spermatogenesis?
Spermatids become associated with nurse/Sertoli cells that help them to develop into sperm(atazoa) (n). This is cell differentiation.
5 of 8
What is the sixth step of spermatogenesis?
Sperm detach from the Sertoli cells and eventually are carried out of the testis by the fluid in the centre of the seminiferous tubule.
6 of 8
What is the first step of oogenesis?
Primary follicles are made of a central oocyte surrounded by a single layer of follicle cells. Every menstrual cycle, a few primary follicles start to develop and the oocyte completes the 1st meiosis division
7 of 8
What is the second step of oogenesis?
In a secondary follicle, follicle cells multiply, and a fluid-filled cavity develops. The oocyte starts the 2nd division of meiosis.
