What was the Triumvirate and who was in it?

Zinoviev, Kamenev and Stalin. they opposed the Left wing. They wanted to deny Trotsky leadership.

to stop Stalin being sacked Zinoviev, Kamenev backed Stalin. Got Lenin's Testiment to be private =Trotsky lost early advantage. Stalin created an approved list for the Party Conference- control over who attended= 30%. They elected politburo.

How did Trotsky aid his failure to get power?

poor health, neglected his position on the politburo= missed key meetings= excluded himslef from key desicions. refused to make private alliances= didn't understand nature of struggle=failed to realise real power
