Wilson
Christian attendance is declining in the UK; church figures
1 of 15
Brierley
Non-christian attendance is increasing
2 of 15
Bruce - Middle Class Women
Christianity will be extinct in 2030; church attendance and church will have other uses. Not enough people are training to be church clergy.
3 of 15
Kendal Project
Sacularisation not secularisation; New age religions will overtake traditional religions by 2025.
4 of 15
Post-modernity
Anti-secularisation; not declining but changing
5 of 15
Grace Davie
Don't have to be in attendance to believe in it; increase in vicarious religion; believing in a privatised and individualistic way.
6 of 15
Lyon
No longer in its original context; crosses on fashion necklaces/current songs using religion. Religion is consumed differently to how it was before.
7 of 15
Hadden and Shupe
More access to different religions; internet and travel etc. Something for everyone = re-enchantment.
8 of 15
Harveui-Leger
Forgetting traditional religion is christianity - made us insecure. Becoming spiritual shoppers; won't stick to one religion, take parts from different religions.
9 of 15
Starke and Bainbridge
As religion declines, new age faiths increase - never without religion in some way; just in a different context.
10 of 15
Religious Pluralism - Bruce
All religions treated equally; weakens message of all faiths; too many to choose from.
11 of 15
Parsons - Structural Differentiation
Religion has lost many of it's functions; schools, social networking, housing etc. are now provided by other institutions. Church does still provide shelter for homeless so hasn't completely lost all functions.
12 of 15
Weber - Rationalisation
Turn towards science - industrialisation and the enlightenment project. Not mutually exclusive; new age movements draw on both faith and science.

Wilson
Attendance is high in USA but still secular; just attending as it's the 'way of life', rather than actually believing.
14 of 15
Bruce
Mismatch between option polls and actual attendance; big % claimed to go to church but attendance was lower. Still doesn't show whether people actually believe.
