Frontal Lobe
Area involved in consciousness, logical thinking and problem solving. At the front of the brain

Temporal Lobe
Area for hearing and auditory ability, as well as memory. Underneath the frontal lobe, the parietal lobe and next to the occipital lobe and brain stem and cerebellum

Brain Stem
Autonomic Nervous System - controls heart, lungs - essential for survival. Underneath the temporal lobe, next to the cerebellum

Parietal Lobe
Location for Sensory and Motor movement. At the back top, next to the occipital lobe. Helps control motor movement

Occipital Lobe
Location for Vision. Information from the left eye processed by right side of the brain, right eye processed by the left side of the brain. At the back of the brain

Somatosensory Area
Located in the PARIETAL LOBE, responds to senses such as heat, cold, pain and touch

Motor Area
Located in the PARIETAL LOBE, responsible for controlling out voluntary movements

Cerebellum
Coordinates movement and balance

Hypothalamus
In the LIMBIC SYSTEM. Primitive behaviours such as sexual behaviours, eating, drinking. Also aggression

Hippocampus
In the LIMBIC SYSTEM. New memories form in to long term memories. Emotions and spatial orientation.

Amygdala
In the LIMBIC SYSTEM. Involved in memory, fear and emotions.

The Pons
CENTRAL CORE. Triggers dreaming and controls wake

Medulla
CENTRAL CORE. Main centre for breathing, walking, sleeping and keeping the heart beating.

Thalamus
LIMBIC SYSTEM. Regulates conscious and sleep. Also

Cerebrum
Processes information from various sources. High level thinking e.g. reasoning, understanding, intelligence and personality.

Central Core
Regulates our most primitive and involuntary behaviours

Controls our emotions
