Define Thermochemistry
Thermochemistry is the study of heat changes during chemical reactions.
1 of 7
Define Exothermic
If a reaction is exothermic, the rection releases heat, energy has been given out.
2 of 7
Define Endothermic
if a reaction is endothemic the reaction absorbs heat from the surroundings.
3 of 7
Define enthalpy
a thermodynamic quantity equivalent to the total heat content of a system. It is equal to the internal energy of the system plus the product of pressure and volume.
4 of 7
Define enthalpy change
The temperature change at a constant pressure.
5 of 7
Standard molar enthalpy of formation
Enthalpy change when one mole of substance is formed from its constituent elements under standard conditions, all reactants and products being in their standard states.
6 of 7
Standard molar enthalpy of combustion
the enthalpy change when one mole of substance is completely burnt in oxygen under standard conditions, all reactants and products being in their standard states.
