What is a food web?
A food chain made up of animals which eat many different things, and are therefore involved in many other food chains.
1 of 11
In this food chain 'Shrimp-->Tuna-->Dolphin', what would happen if there were less dolphins?
This would mean that there would be more tuna, are there are less dolphins to eat them, but less shrimp, as there are now more tuna to eat them.
2 of 11
What is a producer?
A plant which can produce its own food, by a process called photosynthesis.
3 of 11
What is a consumer?
Something that cannot produce their own food, and therefore has to consume other foods.
4 of 11
In this food chain 'Seaweed-->Fish-->Seal-->Shark', name the producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer and the tertiary consumer.
Producer:Seaweed, Primary consumer:Fish, Secondary Consumer:Seal, Tertiary consumer:Shark.
5 of 11
What is adaptation?
When an aimal adapts to its environment in different seasons, meaning that it won't be seen by predators, and it can provide foor for itself. E.g: An animal may change the colour of its fur to white in winter,as to provide a camoflage in the snow.
6 of 11
There are three ways of sampling an object. What are they?
Pond dipping, pitfall traps, or tracks/footprints.
7 of 11
What is Pond Dipping?
Taking samples of water organisms by putting a net or a jar into parts of a pond.
8 of 11
What is a pitfall trap?
A container in the ground. Small animals fall into it and are therefore trapped in the pot. A problem with this is that if too many insects gather in the pot, it will be easier for them all to escape.
9 of 11
Why does the number of organisms go down as you go along a food chain?
Because energy is lost at each stage.
10 of 11
Why are some pyramids of numbers not shaped like a pyramid?
Because pyramids of numbers do not take the sizes of organisms into account. E.g: The bottom section of the pyramid may be a lot smaller than the one above it, as there are lots more in comparison to the one below, although they still consume it.
