What is heat a form of?
Heat is a form of energy. Sometimes called thermal energy.
1 of 17
What does heat energy flow from and too?
Heat energy always flows from a hot place to a cold place. Temperature is a measure of how hot something is, measured with a temperature in degrees celsius ('c). The amount of heat energy something has depends upon both its length and its size.
2 of 17
What is energy needed to heat up?
Energy is needed to heat anything up e.g. Immersion heater, Burning gas, Priction

What is S.H.C?
All substances have a S.H.C., it is the energy required to heat up 1kg of that substance by 1'c for water, S.H.C is roughly 4200J/Kg/'C.
4 of 17
What is the energy formula?
Energy (in J)= mass of object (in Kg) x S.H.C (J/Kg/'C) x change in temperature ('C).
5 of 17
What is the energy to melting or evaporate formula?
Energy (to melt or evaporate)=latent heat (of melting or evaporating) x mass (in Kg)
6 of 17
Are metals good conductors of heat?
Metals are good conductors of heat, but some are better than others. Makes the 'atoms' vibrate more- they knock into each other like dominoes.
7 of 17
What is a sound wave?
Sound is the only longitudinal wave, all others are transverse.
8 of 17
What are the 5 main electro-magnetic spectrum.
Y-ray, X-ray, U-V, Visible, I-R.
9 of 17
How do microwave ovens work?
Microwaves travel about 2cm into potato. Flip the water and fat molecules causing them to heat up.
10 of 17
How can we collect energy from the sun?
Solar panels for hot water/ electricity.
11 of 17
How does the solar panel work?
Light energy knocks out electrons from solar panel (silicon wafer) is your electrical current.
12 of 17
What happens when i move the wire in the magnetic field?
Get current flowing.
13 of 17
What happens if i move it faster?
Bigger current.
14 of 17
What happens if i move it in the opposite direction?
Current change direction.
15 of 17
What about if i keep the wire still and more the magnet?
Current still flows.
16 of 17
How can i make a bigger current?
Bigger magnet, more wire/coil and move it faster.
