Science revision

?
What do carrier molecules do? Name one example.
They're used to transport smaller molecules. haemoglobin attaches itself to oxygen molecules and transports them around the body.
1 of 11
What do hormones do? Name one example.
They carry messages around the body. Insulin is a hormone released into the blood by the pancreas to regulate the blood sugar levels.
2 of 11
What are structural proteins?
They're physically strong. For example, collagen is a structural protein that strengthens connective tissues like ligaments or cartilage.
3 of 11
Name some examples of chemical reactions that go on in cells.
Respiration, photosynthesis,and protein synthesis.
4 of 11
How do you make reactions happen faster?
Increasing the temperature.
5 of 11
What do enzymes act as?
Biological catalysts.
6 of 11
What does a catalyst do?
It speeds up the reaction without using itself up during that reaction.
7 of 11
What usually happens in chemical reactions?
Things either split up or join together.
8 of 11
What is the substrate?
The molecule changed in the reaction.
9 of 11
What does an enzyme have to be able to do in order for it to work?
It has to be able to fit into the active site.
10 of 11
What happens if it doesn't fit?
It won't be catalysed.
