What do multicellular organisms develop?
They develop nervous and hormonal communication systems.
1 of 11
What is the role of a nervous system?
A humans nervous system reacts to their surroundings and coordinates their behaviour.
2 of 11
What are the different parts that make up the nervous system?
The central nervous system(CNS), sensory neurones, motor neurones and effectors.
3 of 11
Describe the central nervous system (CNS).
-Only found in vertebrates, consists of the brain and the spinal cord only. In mammals, the CNS is connected to the body by sensory and motor neurones.
4 of 11
Describe a sensory neurone.
The sensory neurone carries information in the form of electrical impulses from the receptors to the CNS.
5 of 11
Describe a motor neurone.
The motor neurone carries the electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors.
6 of 11
Describe an effector.
Effectors are muscles and glands that respond to nervous impulses and create a change.
7 of 11
What are examples of receptors?
Taste receptors on the tongue and sound receptors in the ears.
8 of 11
Give some examples in ways effectors respond to nervous impulses.
Muscles contract in response to a nervous impulse and glands secrete hormones.
9 of 11
How dose the Central Nervous System coordinate a response?
Because the CNS is a coordination centre, it receives information from the receptors and then coordinates a response, which is carried out by effectors.
10 of 11
What is the order of response?
Stimulus -> receptor -> sensory neurone-> CNS -> motor neurone-> effector -> response
