arteries - carry blood AWAY from the heart body cells. The blood comes out of the heart at high presure so the walls of the arteries have to be thick
vein - the vein carries blood TOWARDS the heart. the blood is at low pressure therefore the walls don't need to be thick.
1 of 10
Capillaries - capillaries are branches of the arteries, they carry blood really close to the body cells and exchange substances with them. there walls are very thin so that the substances can diffuse in and out. they supply oxygen and clear out co2
the right side of the heard pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs to collect oxygen and remove carbon dioxide
2 of 10
the left side of the heart pumps oxygenated blood around the body
blind drug trail - blind trails are when the patients don't know if they have the drug or the placebo
3 of 10
double blind trails - neither teh scientist nor the patients know who has the placebo or who has the drug
open label trails - both the patients and the scientists know who has what
4 of 10
strength - how good a material is at resisting a force
hardness - how difficult a material is to cut
5 of 10
crude oil - short chain molecules have a lower boiling point to long chain molecules
pollymerisation - lots of very small molecules called monomers can join together, when this happens it creates a very long molecules called a polymer
6 of 10
biology - Huntington disease is caused by a dominant allele
biology - cystic fibrosis is caused by a receive allele
7 of 10
biology - homozygout for a trait means you have two alleles the SAME for that particular gene
if your heterozygous for a trait you have two DIFFERENT alleles for that particular gene
8 of 10
when a plasticiser is added to a polymer it makes it softer and easier to shape
is a polymer is crystaline it has a high density and is stronger and has a higher melting point
9 of 10
polymers with short chains are easy to shape and have a lower melting point
long polymer chains have a high melting point and are stiffer than short chained polymers
