Define acceleration as change of speed over time, caused by a net force acting.
The speed and acceleration of an object changes when the forces acting on it are unbalanced. An unbalanced force is called a net force and a net force results in an object accelerating.
1 of 10
State Newton's First Law of Motion
An object will remain at rest, or will not change its speed or direction, unless it is acted upon an unbalanced force.
2 of 10
State Newton's Second Law of Motion
The greater the force pulling the object the faster the object will accelerate depending on its mass.
3 of 10
State Newton's Third Law of Motion
If object A applies a force upon object B, object B will apply an equal force back on object A. For example, if someone ran as fast as they could into a wall, it would be very painful as the wall apply's an equal force back.
4 of 10
List an example of Newton's first law of motion
When you are a standing passenger on a bus ride and the bus stops suddenly you are thrown forwards as a result of inertia.
5 of 10
List an example of Newton's second law of motion
It is easier to push an empty shopping cart than a full one, as the empty shopping carts mass is small and it would therefore accelerate faster.
6 of 10
Example of Newton's Third Law
If you jump as high as you can and land it doesn't hurt. But if you jump down of a cliff you will have apply a massive force when you hit the ground, and the ground will apply and equal force back resulting in the pain.
7 of 10
Explain how gravity can be used to explain how objects in the solar system move.
Newton's law of universal gravitation states that any two objects in the universe attract each other with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
8 of 10
Distinguish between mass and weight.
Mass is a measure of how much matter and object has, however, weight is a measure of how strongly gravity pulls down on that matter.
9 of 10
Describe and explain the apparent motion of solar system objects as viewed from Earth.
Due to the Earth's spin, the stars and the solar system seem to move from east to west, but that is simply because just like the sun and the moon, stars rise in the west and therefore it will be observable as they change position in the night sky.
