What are some key features of schizophrenia?
1% of population suffers, age on onset for women is 25-30 years and men is 18-30 years. 25% recover completely, 15% die (suicide), 10% hospitalised and 35% improved and relatively independent

positive symptoms are additions to normal behaviour and negatives are where normal behaviour is lacking/missing

delusions are fixed false beliefs that are not culturally acceptable. delusion of grandeur- they think they're in a prominent position of power. deletion of persecution- someone is out to kill them. delusion of reference- everything ref to them

thought insertion- think someones inserted thoughts into their mind. thought broadcasting- everyone can hear their thought. thought withdrawal- someone is taking away their thoughts.

inability to make connections between thoughts, results in incomprehensible language and ideas that are loosely connected

what is catatonia? (abnormal motor behaviour)
various motor disturbances characterised by abnormality of movement and behaviour. ranged from fidgeting to childish messing about- decrease in individual responsiveness to environment
