What do we mean by a 'balanced diet'?
A balanced diet conatins the correct amounts of all the nutrients needed for healthy functioning of the body.

What is meant by 'metabolic rate' and factors effect this rate?
Metabolic rate is a measure of how quickly the chemical reactions in cells release energy from food. Exercise/proportions of fat to muscle/inherited factors effect the rate.

A) A pahtogen is an organism that causes disease. B) An antibiotic that kills bacteria.

Viruses reproduce inside vody cells. The drugs will also damage the cells or tissues.

Everyone in a hospital should wash thier hands or use hand gels to prevent transfer of pathogens.

What is meant by a 'mutation' of a pathogen?
Immutation is a change in a gene.

How is pandemic different from a epidemic?
A pandemic occurs when a disease spreads between different countries, an epidemic occurs within one country.

Why don't doctors give antibiotics for mild throat infections?
Mild throat infections can get better quickly without antibiotics. Overuse od antibiotics results in the developments of antibiotic resistant baceria.

Explains how bacteria develop antibiotic resistance?
Some bacteria mutate and becomes resistant to an antibiotic. Antibiotics kill the non resistant starins. The resistant strains multiply. Each time antibiotics are used more of the resitant strains survive until the whole population of bacteria is res

How does a person develop immunity following vaccination?
White blood cells respond to the vacine by producing antibodies. If the body is infected witht the pahtogen, the white blood cells repsond quickly by producing more antibodies.
