What's a sacrament?
'An outward sign of an inward grace" - At Augustine. Which means, something that is done which has visible signs and symbols, but has an invisible effect. God's love is made manifest in us.

Initiation is an act in which a person is formally admitted into a group. It's a sign of belonging.

What happens in the beginning of infant baptism in the Catholic Church?
Welcome. At the door the Priest asks the parents and God parents if they are willing to bring their child up as Christian. When answered yes, they are welcomed inside.
